ASZ Executive Committee meets with the Minister of Finance

The Actuarial Society of Zambia Executive Committee paid a courtesy call on the Minister of Finance, Dr. Situmbeko Musokotwane MP on the 1st of December 2021. The ExCo was represented by the ASZ president Mulenga Mutati, assistant secretary Chongo Nkalamo and council member Mike Toms. During the meeting, the team gave a brief background of the society to the minister as well as highlighted the councils goals for the next year.

2021 Insurance Conference

The Insurers association of Zambia held yet another exciting Insurance conference that brought together various industry and thought leaders. The Actuarial Society of Zambia were invited and given a speaking slot on day 2 of the conference. Represented by the President and Assistant secretary, the dual introduced the 2021/2022 Executive committee, outlined ASZ goals for the next year and finally gave a talk around the subject "Leveraging actuarial techniques to release capital and increase profitability".

Mentorship

Mentor-Mentee Program

At the end of June, a call for members to sign up for the mentor-mentee program the ASZ council will be introducing.

If you are an Actuarial student either studying or pursuing the actuarial exams, do not miss your chance to be paired with a mentor who has walked in your shoes.

If you are a Fellow, Associate or nearly qualified actuary do consider signing up as a mentor and get to inspire future actuaries.

Opportunity

New Insurance Act Exemplifies Actuarial Role

The Insurance Act, No 38 of 2021, is set to repeal the Insurance Act No 27 of 1997 once the Minister of Finance and National Planning passes a Statutory Instrument for its commencement. The Pensions and Insurance Authority (PIA) has hailed the Act as much anticipated and progressive for the industry. This article zooms in on some immediate benefits in the Actuarial space.

Raiza Sibongile Mtamira, Chair of the Actuarial Students of Zambia highlights some of the opportunies acturial professionals will have once this law is in effect.

Event: Virtual Meet & Greet

Date: 23 July 2021

The 2021 Executive committee hosted its first event with a focus on student engagement. The committee hosted the University of Zambia and University of Lusaka actuarial students in a virtual interactive session where the students got a chance to learn about the society and have their questions answered by Zambians currently in actuarial practice.
