Registered on the 18th of December 2008 under the Society’s Act, the Actuarial Society of Zambia (ASZ) is a professional body representing the actuarial profession in Zambia. The society was formed with a mission to raise visibility around the actuarial profession, across the financial services industry as well as higher education. The society is committed to promoting and encouraging a high standard of actuarial practice within the Zambian Pensions and Insurance industry. ASZ seeks to support its members by:

Mulenga C. Mutati FIA
P R E S I D E N T
Mulenga is a Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA) with vast experience across the United Kingdom and mainland European insurance markets. Mulenga began his career at AIG Europe, rising up the ranks from an intern to a Senior Actuarial Analyst. To broaden his experience, he joined KMPG UK as an Actuarial Manager, transitioning from an in-house actuary to a consulting actuary.
Dr. Mubanga Lombe PhD

Dr. Lombe is a Lecturer in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Zambia. Her key contribution to the actuarial profession was the development of the first ever Actuarial Science Curriculum which she spearheaded. This
has created a wider local talent pool for the insurance and pensions industry.
Boniface Phiri

Boniface currently works at Prudential Life Assurance as a Deputy Manager focusing on the retail Bancassurance
business. Prior to this Boniface was an Actuarial
Analyst within Prudential’s actuarial risk and compliance department. He holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Actuarial Science from the University of Zambia.
Chongo Nkalamo

Chongo currently works at Prudential Life Assurance Zambia within the Actuarial and Analytics function as he finishes his actuarial board exams. Chongo holds a Bachelor’s specializing in Actuarial and Mathematical statistics from the University of Cape Town. He is an aspiring actuary and FRM.

Phanuel Mweetwa Natala is in private consultancy where he has gained vast experience in Accounting & Finance, Life and Non-life Reinsurance, National health systems financing and risk management. Phanuel is a Fellow of the Zambia Institute of Chartered Accountants and holds a Bachelor of Science in Actuarial Science.
Kasonde Chipalo

Kasonde is a Business Analyst within the Finance department at Airtel Zambia. Prior to moving into the telecommunications industry, Kasonde worked within the insurance industry at Prudential life as an Investment and Business analyst. Kasonde holds a Bachelor of Science in Actuarial and Mathematical statistics from Wits University.
Michael Toms FIA FASSA

Michael is a fully qualified Fellow Actuary (FIA, FASSA) with 8+ years’ work experience, mainly in dynamic hedging and life insurance valuations (SAM implementation and ORSA work). Michael is currently working as a consulting actuary and has a strong programming background (with an
additional specialization in computer science at university) as well as a demonstrated history of process automation (primarily using Python and SQL).
Francis Kaunda

Francis graduated from the University of Zambia with a bachelor’s degree with a major in Economics in 2015. Immediately he joined ZSIC Life under Pensions Department but later got moved to the Technical Actuarial Department. It was there that Francis developed his deep passion for Actuarial Science that got him moved to Quantum Consultants and Actuaries (Z) Limited where he is currently an Actuarial Manager
Kupa Chirwa

Kupa currently works at Deloitte Zambia as an Actuarial Analyst. Kupa’s time at the university saw him receive various academic honours and graduated the best student. Most importantly, his education showed him the value that an actuary presents to any industry. Kupa holds a BSc. Actuarial Science (with Distinction) from the University of Zambia.
